Duende.

Duende è il nome di una figura mitologica del folcrore popolare  raffigurato come un umanoide di piccole dimensioni, un po’ come uno gnomo. Col tempo il Duende è stato identificato come lo spirito di evocazione, la risposta fisica ed emotiva suscitata dall’arte.

Avere il Duende  equivale a quel brivido che ti fa sorridere o piangere  di fronte a una performance artistica  particolarmente espressiva. Il termine è spesso usato nella musica folk in particolare modo nel Flamenco, durante le performance più intense.

Federico Garcia Lorca è stato uno dei primi a sviluppare l’estetica del Duende. Secondo la sua visione possono essere isolati quattro aspetti fondamentali  del duende: irrazionalità, terrosità, una maggiore consapevolezza della morte, e un pizzico di diabolico. Il duende è un spirito di terra che aiuta l'artista vede i limiti dell'intelligenza, che porta l'artista faccia a faccia con la morte, e che aiuta a creare e comunicare indimenticabile, agghiacciante arte.

La sua visione è in contrapposizione alla  grazia, il fascino classico, al virtuosismo lirico. il duende per Lorca è passione, conflitto interiore  che coglie non solo l’artista  ma anche il pubblico fruitore, creando una condizione per cui tale arte può essere compresa con poco sforzo cosciente.

Con il duende si spalanca l’occhio della mente e tutto viene percepito con una forza estrema.

Il duende è un potere misterioso che risiede nel lato oscuro delle cose e delle emozioni,  è qualcosa percepibile da tutti ma difficile da spiegare. Come disse sant’Agostino per definire il tempo: «Se non mi si chiede che cos’è, lo so. Se me lo si chiede, non lo so»Non esistono mappe o esercizi spirituali da compiere per trovarlo, si sa  solo che scorre nelle nostre vene  come il sangue, che rifugge spiegazioni logiche e regole di stile. Esso brucia e si infiamma dando vita a esperienze artistiche intense e memorabili.

Come un fuoco distrugge e porta a qualcosa di nuovo quindi, che ci sorprende  anche nella sua banalità, è quel “non so” che ci ha affascinato.

Con questa mostra  cercheremo di esplorare il Duende o di evocarlo attraverso le opere degli artisti internazionali presenti. abbandoneremo gli stili classici, le immagini già viste a favore di qualcosa di più evocativo che provenga dal vissuto dell’artista ma che  sia in grado di toccare l’eperienza personale di ognuno di noi.

Esploreremo territori sconosciuti o forse solo ignorati, guidati da quella energia indefinibile che  ci fa venire la pelle d’oca oppure che ci disturba durante la visione di un’opera d’arte.

Alla fine di questo percorso forse ancora non sapremo dare una spiegazione esaustiva di ciò che il Duende è, di sicuro non saremo in grado di descriverlo a parole  ma di sicuro  lo avremo vissuto dentro di noi.

El Duende!

Duende is the name of a mythological figure of the popular Folklore depicted as a small humanoid , something like a gnome.

In time, the Duende has been identified as the spirit of evocation , physical and emotional response elicited by art .

Having the Duende is equivalent to that thrill that makes you smile or cry in front of a particularly expressive artistic performance .

The term is often used in folk music in particular in Flamenco , during the most intense performance.

Federico Garcia Lorca was one of the first to develop the aesthetics of Duende. In his view it can be isolated four fundamental aspects of the duende : irrationality , earthiness , a greater awareness of death , and a hint of evil. The duende is an earth spirit that helps the artist to see the limits of intelligence , leading the artist face to face with death , and that helps to create and communicate memorable , chilling art .

His vision is opposed to grace, classic charm , the lyrical virtuosity. the duende  for Lorca is passion , inner conflict that captures not only the artist but also the public user, creating a condition in which this art can be understood with little conscious effort .

With duende  we open the mind's eye and everything is perceived with extreme force.

the duende is a mysterious power that resides in the dark side of things and emotions , is something perceptible by all but hard to explain . As St. Augustine said to define the time : "If you don’t  ask me what it is, I know. If you ask me , I do not.

There are no maps or spiritual exercises to do to find it , you just know that flows in our veins like blood , which eschews logical explanations and style rules. It burns  creating an artistic experience intense and memorable .

Like a fire destroys and brings something new , something surprising  even in its banality , is that "do not know " that fascinated us.

With this exhibition we will try to explore the Duende or summon him through the works of international artists . We will abandon the classic styles, the images already seen in favor of something more evocative that comes from the artist own experience, but  able to touch each of us .

We will explore unknown territories or maybe just ignored , guided by that indefinable power that makes us goose bumps , or that disturbs us while watching a work of art .

At the end of this path perhaps we will not give a full explanation of what the Duende is , for sure we will not be able to describe it in words, but for sure we will have it live within us .
